We are proud to present this years OutWest Film Fest taking place September 23rd and 24th at Bruka Theatre located at 99 N. Virginia Street, Reno, NV 89501, with a Short Film event kick-off in South Lake Tahoe on September 21st at the Lake Tahoe Community College’s Duke Theatre.

This year features two different themed screenings on Saturday (at 4 pm and 7 pm) along with a Best of International Short Film presentation on Sunday, the 24th accompanied by MIMOSAS!

Both days will feature some of the best of this year’s LGBTQ short films (comedies, dramas, and documentaries) in a fun-filled atmosphere at Reno’s Bruka Theatre.

The Talk – Tales of Coming Out To Family And Friends

This selection of short films highlight the joys and fears of coming out to family and friends. From unexpected acceptance to fear of losing family and friends including the comedy “Checkmate.”

The LOVE Block – Dating, Falling In Love And Yes – Marriage!

Celebrating the quest for romance, falling in love, and tying the knot, our evening block of films will have you laughing, crying, and falling in love with the wonderful storytellers in this section.

Films include the madcap and heartfelt comedy “The Marriage” and other great love stories!

To get your date night started, the Bruka Theatre will be selling cocktails and there will be appetizers. Get your tickets early as our block of love is sure to sell out before the 23rd.

We Are One – Best Films From Around The Globe

Our final day of the festival, we hilight the best of LGBTQ short films from the U.S. and across the world.  The wide variety of films includes the short film “Versatile” which features two actors from the “Open Relationship” which screened at the 2015 festival and the exquisitely filmed story of young love “Queen’s Mile.”

We will toast this final showing of the best of 2017 short films and with mimosas and international snacks. Following the “We Are One” screening, awards will be announced as selected by the audience and our jury and a final toast of mimosas to celebrate our LGBTQ community.

South Lake Tahoe Short Film Kick-off

The Duke Theater will host the first OutWest event with a kick-off of short films that serve to educate and entertain. The event begins at 6pm with a 50 minute Youth/Educational “Coming Out” block and after a short intermission resumes at 7:20m with “Living Proud,” a block of films directed more toward an adult audience. (A portion of ticket sales for the September 21st event will be donated to the LTCC Foundation earmarked for the Tahoe Pride Equality Scholarship, est. 2013.)

Pride Night with the Reno Ace’s

 

Greater Nevada Field and the Reno Aces, in conjunction with OUR Center, will host the first ever Pride Night at Greater Nevada Field on August 17th, 2017. OUR Center was launched on May 29, 2009, the same year the Reno Aces played their inaugural season, to establish and maintain a safe, empowering, and supportive center in Northern Nevada that addresses advocacy, education and services.

“Reno has long been a city that embraces its diversity,” said Eric Edelstein, President of the Reno Aces and Reno 1868 FC. “We are so pleased to have the chance at creating this opportunity and officially celebrate Reno’s LGBT community and its allies, and we are looking forward to a fun night at Greater Nevada Field.”

The Reno Aces will become the third Triple-A team in the Pacific Coast League to host a Pride Night –The night of August 17, when The Aces take on the Sacramento River Cats at Greater Nevada Field. The game is set for 7:05 p.m.

The Aces join Triple-A teams in Sacramento and El Paso in being inclusive and showing the sports community is an ally of the LGBT+ community. A special web page, http://bit.Ly/acespridenight is available to purchase tickets for the event. Tickets for the game are left field reserve at $14 each. A Victory Voucher can also be purchased for $7 which includes the choice of hot dog or BBQ sandwich, a bag of chips and a soda. National Coming Out Day!

Join us to celebrate National Coming Out Day on Tuesday, October 11th!

National Coming Out Day (NCOD) is an internationally-observed human rights day devoted to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, and questioning folks and allies. The day is about providing visibility to LGBTQQIAA individuals and promoting awareness of LGBTQQIAA issues.

NCOD is a time dedicated for people across the LGBTQQIA and Allied communities to celebrate coming out, and as part of our observance of NCOD.

You can participate by coming to the center and submitting your Coming Out Story between 2-6pm.
Meet new people and talk about your journey. Participate in a round-table discussion. Coming Out Story will be playing in the center.
Reception will begin at 6pm, followed at 7pm with the speakers panel telling their stories and answering questions about their experiences.
